Samaria, 2 day hike

Spathi

Dikti (also Lassithiotika Ori) is a mountain range on the east of the island of Crete in the prefecture of Lassithi. On the west it extends to the prefecture of Heraklio. According to the Greek Mythology, Zeus was reared on this mountain in a cave called Dictaeon Andron (Psychro Cave). On the north of the main massif, the plateau of Lassithi is located.

Stroumboulas

In a sort distance from "Koumpedes" in Heraklion, at the foot of Strouboulas (880 meters), next to the old highway, near the 14th kilometre sign to Rethimno, there is a big circular ditch known as the "Threshing Floor".

It is a ground subsidence with a circular shape up to 90 meters in diameter. Its slopes are steep and vertical reaching up to 60 meters of height from the bottom of the formation. Descent into the interior is feasible on foot from the South-West side following a certain pathway.

Geologists believe that it is a sinkhole, formed by the depression of an underground cave, during the Pleistocene period.

West Crete, Gigilos summit 2080 meters

Where everybody goes down, we go up. One of the major attractions of Crete is the Samaria gorge. From the parking area there also is an alternative, the mountain on the right called Gigilos. This is the second highest face in the whole Greece with 1000 meters length. Lot of rock climbing activity on this mountain and a great hike too.

Agiofarago

There are two ways to access Agiofarago. The first and most popular one starts from Odigitria Monastery and ends at the beach crossing the beautiful gorge. The second one starts from Kali Limenes and ends at the beach crossing a marvelous coastal path.
