Agia Galini Sea Kayak Trip
A great trip ideal for visitors staying in Agia Galini, Kokkinos Pirgos, Rethymno or Matala.
This route is completely weather-dependent since the south coast can occasionally receive strong katabatic winds plus quiet big waves coming from the west. It is not suitable for families with young kids.
When conditions are right, it is one of the most enjoyable day trips we offer as there are plenty of caves to explore and an amazing rock formations all along the way for those that want to play between the rocks.
Paddling distance: Our route varies based on group ability and weather conditions.
15–21 km routes heading either west or southeast are suitable for beginners and intermediate paddlers.
The exact plan is decided on the day based on participant experience and the latest weather forecast.
Equipment: We provide a range of single and tandem (double) sea kayaks. Tandem kayaks are recommended for beginners due to their stability and ease of use. More experienced kayakers can choose from our fleet of high-performance composite sea kayaks by Nigel Dennis, Valley, North Shore, P&H, and our exclusive 3kymia Sea Kayaks.
Plan of the trip: We begin with a brief paddling introduction for newcomers, covering essential strokes and safety.
Snorkeling and swimming are essential parts of this trip—visibility can reach up to 25 meters, with vibrant green and blue hues that make the sea feel like a giant natural swimming pool. Snorkeling gear included.
Lunch options: We may stop at a local taverna known for great food and low prices, or you’re welcome to bring your own packed lunch.

Do you run this trip all year long?
Yes, the trip can be arranged all year for groups of at least four participants.
Is there a limitation on weight?
Yes, the weight limit depends on the kayak type:
Single Kayaks
- ✅ Recommended up to 105 kg
- ⚠️ Up to 110 kg possible for experienced paddlers
- ❗ Stability is significantly reduced above 105 kg
Tandem (Double) Kayaks
- ✅ Can accommodate paddlers up to 115 kg
- ⚠️ Cockpit design often becomes uncomfortable above 105 kg
If your weight exceeds 105 kg, a trial may be required. In some cases, paddling may be impractical due to restricted legroom and stability limitations.
Note:
I have been designing and building sea kayaks for several years. My custom kayak brand, 3kymia, reflects this experience.
