Our Kayak Base in South Chania
Since summer 2019, our sea kayaking base has been located at Ilingas Beach, just a short walk from the peaceful village of Chora Sfakion on Crete’s southwest coast.
This region is one of the most spectacular areas for sea kayaking anywhere in Greece — dramatic cliffs, caves, crystal-clear water, and an untouched coastline.

What Makes This Area So Special?
If you haven’t visited this part of Crete before, you’re in for a stunning surprise:

Our base is located 10 meters from the shoreline, right next to the only building in the area: a small family-run hotel and taverna offering excellent local food and beautiful sea views.
There is plenty of parking just below Ilingas Hotel, and drinks are available directly on the beach.
Family-Friendly Beach
If you’re traveling with children or companions who don’t kayak, they can enjoy a relaxing day at the beach while you paddle.

Flexible Kayaking Trips from April to October
We run sea kayaking trips most days from April to October, and even during winter by arrangement.
From this base, we offer three different routes:
- Westward: rugged cliffs and remote bays
- Eastward: caves, beaches, and quiet coastline
- National Park Route: ferry transfer into the Samaria Gorge coastline, then kayak back
All trips can be adapted depending on the participants’ experience level and daily sea conditions.
Explore Hidden Gems
A must-see highlight is Loutro, a tiny, car-free seaside village with:
- ancient ruins
- great tavernas
- pristine waters
- quiet charm
Further west you reach Marmara Beach, and continuing further west you reach Agia Roumeli, where the famous Samaria Gorge meets the sea.
Simply put: this is one of the best paddling destinations in the Mediterranean.
