Sea Kayaking Base at Ilingas Beach – South-West Crete
Since summer 2019, we have been operating a dedicated sea kayaking base at Ilingas Beach, located just next to Chora Sfakion on the breathtaking southern coast of the Sfakia region in Chania prefecture.
This stretch of coastline is, without exaggeration, one of the most spectacular areas for sea kayaking in all of Crete — dramatic cliffs, sea caves, remote beaches, and crystal-clear waters.
📍 Google Maps – Directions to our base
The area is a truly hidden gem and offers the perfect balance of adventure and serenity.
As you can see in the aerial photos, our base is located just 10 meters from the sea.
The only nearby building — a small family-run hotel & taverna — serves excellent local dishes with a gorgeous view of the Libyan Sea.
There is ample parking just below the Ilingas Hotel, and drinks/snacks are available directly on the beach.
Family-Friendly & Relaxed Setting
If you’re traveling with family, they are welcome to relax on the beach while you join a kayaking trip.
The facilities include:
- Umbrellas & shaded areas
- Freshwater showers
- Traditional taverna
- Easy access to calm, shallow water
Guided Trips – April to October (and winter on request)
We run sea kayaking trips in the area most days from April to October.
Winter trips are also possible upon request — conditions can be beautiful even in colder months.
Iconic Destinations by Kayak
One of the most rewarding paddles from our base is the route to Loutro, a car-free seaside village with:
- archaeological remains
- white-washed houses
- cozy tavernas
- peaceful atmosphere
From Loutro, you can continue further to:
- Marmara Beach
- Agia Roumeli (exit of Samaria Gorge)
Three Trip Options – Something for Everyone
From our Ilingas base we offer:
- Eastward paddle — dramatic coastline, caves, quiet beaches
- Westward paddle — rugged cliffs, remote coves
- National Park route — ferry transfer + paddling near Samaria Gorge
Trips are always adapted to sea conditions and group experience.
Advanced paddlers can enjoy extended routes.
To put it simply:
this is not a paddling destination you want to miss.
