Sea Kayaking

Kayak day trips is the best way to explore a large part of the island. We offer 10 sea kayak day trips plus one sunset (2.5 hours) while on the majority of them we have the option to choose between two different directions/routes based on weather and group experience. Kayaking in Chania (western Crete), Rethimno (Central Crete), Heraklio (Central Crete) or Lasithi (Eastern Crete) region with the best equipment that you can find in Greece and one of the best in Europe.

Excitement is guaranteed on this expedition! Strong winds are common on this trip and you need to be very comfortable paddling in at least force 4 winds. You need to be close to 4* skills (based on British Canoeing) to join this trip. You don’t need to hold any certification, just be sure that your skills are up to that level.

Samaria is a two days sea kayak trip that takes place within the Samaria national park in an absolutely stunning sea kayaking environment. No previous experience is required. You need to be in good fit and not more than 105kg (that is the limit on weight in the hull of our boats regarding stability).

All rolling sessions take place a few km outside of Heraklion city and or via our base in south Chania at Ilingas beach during May-September.
Water temperature is at its lowest around 15oC during the winter and up to 27oC during the summer.

Successful performance at this level indicates that a candidate has the personal skill level to paddle single or multi-day journeys in a moderate water environment with winds not exceeding Beaufort Force 5.

This is a trip suitable only to experienced paddlers. Your skills needs to be at least at 3* (based on British Canoeing) to join this trip. Big waves and strong winds are common in the area. The total distance is around 27 km with not many landing options. High quality composite kayaks are available from Nigel Dennis, 3kymia & Valley. This kayaking trip depending the experience of the group and weather wise, will be either towards cape Lithino & Matala village (west) or towards the beautiful fishing village of Lentas (east) with plenty of stops for swimming & snorkeling.  It is about an hour driving from Heraklion and more or less half an hour from those that staying in or near Matala and Agia Galini.

The trip is suitable for everyone, a few km away from Heraklion town. No previous experience is necessary and no need to carry any paddling equipment as it will be provided by us. It is just ten minutes driving from Heraklion.

The Island is a historical novel written by Victoria Hislop. It has won several awards including Newcomer of the Year at the 2007 British Book Awards. The book was also nominate During our kayaking trip we will have the chance to visit the island and make a tour inside the walls which is now working as a museum. Fee entrance is not included at the listed price.d for the Book of the Year award at the same event and of course is about the island of Spinalonga.

This is easier to access the trip if you are staying in eastern Crete. It is located close to Agios Nikolaos and not far from Elounda as well and is much less exposed to winds and waves. An ideal trip for non experienced paddlers.
